Breaking Barriers and Nailing It: Women with Tools in YYC

Ladies, have you ever been scrolling through Pinterest or online and spotted a piece you just have to have for your home or garden? I know you have! We all do it, spend countless minutes (or hours) scrolling through websites and bookmarking items or stores that we love. This is one of the main reasons we started our community Facebook group, Women with Tools in YYC. So you don’t have to wait anymore – you can pick up your hammer, clear a small space outside or in your garage and DO.IT.YOURSELF.

Yes ladies, DIY, anything you have your heart set-on, you can learn how to build it and we start here!

The Modern Planter Box

On July 20, our community group starts and the first group build is a Modern Planter Box. It’s a beautiful piece for indoor or outdoor use and once complete, it can be stained or painted in any color or design you’d like! Pictured below are two photos of the planter box; one in its completed (raw and untouched) form and the other how Angela, our expert-in-charge, stained and painted hers!

It’s a pretty straightforward build with clean lines and with all of Angela’s guidance you WILL be able to complete this build in an afternoon! For a little sneak-peek, check out our Instagram video.

What to Expect

Building can be a fun and rewarding project, especially when you have a supportive community and building expert to help you along the way. Here’s what to expect in the group.

Introduction to the Project

The group will provide an introduction to the Modern Planter Box project.

Step-by-Step Instruction Manual

We will provide a detailed step-by-step instruction manual that outlines the entire building process. Each step will be explained to ensure everyone can follow along, from beginners to experienced builders.

Materials & Tools List

We will supply you with a cut-list, which includes all of the supplies and materials you’ll need for the project. Don’t worry, our list will also have measurements to avoid any confusion during the construction process.

Additionally, you’ll receive a list of the tools you’ll need to complete the build, ensuring that you have everything on-hand before starting.

Photos and Videos

The instruction manual will include photos and we will share videos to visually demonstrate the steps! These can make it easier to understand the process, especially to those of you who are more visual learners :)

Community Interaction

Our group encourages active participation and collaboration. If you have any questions or need clarification on any step, we encourage you to ASK in the group.

You are also encouraged to post pictures of your progress as you work on your planter boxes. This creates a supportive and connected atmosphere where everyone can celebrate each other’s achievements and offer constructive feedback if needed.

Problem-Solving and Support

Our community is here to help each other overcome any obstacles you may encounter during the building process. Whether it’s providing tips, offering alternative approaches, or assisting with troubleshooting, our collective knowledge will ensure that everyone can successfully complete the project.

Building a Connection

By actively participating in the group, sharing progress and engaging with others, a sense of camaraderie and connection is fostered among us and we LOVE connection. Our shared experiences and support for one another help to make the journey more enjoyable and fulfilling.
